Artwork
A sampling of Amber Schaberg’s middle grade chapter illustrations, children’s picture books, historical non fiction, and cover work.
The Chimney Sweeps
The Chimney Sweeps was a piece I drew, set in Victorian London. I wanted to show the generous nature of children- who give, even when they don’t have anything themselves. I was experimenting with a new, looser style.
Hide and Seek and Tag
This piece is from “The Purple Dancing Triceratops.” Written by Kimmie Gotch, Illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg, and used with permission.
This is my favorite piece from the book. I had so much fun drawing a Dino close up and all of the critters and flowers around her.
Morning Mystery
Turkey Trot
I love drawing a chase and silly action. In The Turkey’s Wishbone, a turkey stuffed animal (stuffy) comes to life and has a real life adventure, complete with a real life turkey chase.
The Stuffy Factory from The Turkey's Wishbone
Here, I wanted to show the inner workings of a toy factory. I drew from my experience as a fashion designer, working in an office/factory environment. (Yes, I made it more charming, but just as colorful!)
The Turkey's Wishbone
It’s hard being a show toy. Our Turkey, Trent, lives a lonely life and wants to feel freedom and love.
I had the best time depicting different eras of turkey toy shoppers in this piece.

Squirrel and a Nut
"A Home for Spike" was written by Heather Vogel Frederick, illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg, and published by Longyear Museum Press. I like this piece because I enjoy drawing hands.
This book won Honorable Mention in the New England Museum Association’s 2024 Publication Award Competition.

Hog
Based on real life events. “Those Darn Squirrels” books, by Adam Rubin sum up my hobbies. Some of my favorite things to draw are smaller, every day animals. Created on the iPad Pro using the Procreate app.
Dancing Daughter
Page illustration from “No One Has More Than Me,” by Bartholomew Tosch. Illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg.
Behind Glass
Study drawing of characters behind glass, with aquarium lighting.
